+ Seasonal Facial

At Vanilla Sugar Face & Body we've learned to change things up a bit. Every few months we have a new facial that is offered. We love to use botanical's, herbs, fruits & veggies that are often associated with that time of the year. For example, in the autumn we may offer a pumpkin enzyme facial. In the summer our Strawberry Lemonade facial has been a big hit. All of our seasonal facials are not made to be fluff, but to drive results to achieve the best complexion possible. If you would like to know what our seasonal facials are, you can visit our Facebook Page and search around or you can call or text us at the spa.

About Our Facials

Meet your esthetics experts…

Facials are known to be a relaxing experience at Vanilla Sugar Face & Body.  Our licensed estheticians are required by Illinois state law to have a minimum of 750 hours of supervised training and has passed the Illinois state exam which allows them to practice here.  We also take it a step further at our spa.  None of our estheticians are allowed to work on clients until they pass an in-spa practical test.  What does this mean?  Well, we first do not let any of our estheticians work on our guests until they have been employed for a minimum of 3 months (and we usually wait closer to 6 months).  This is to know if they are up to the high standards we set that include excellent customer service, communication skills and of course, perform the treatment to a level that our guests have grown to expect.

An Illinois licensed esthetician is allowed to work on the epidermis also known as the outer layer of the skin. They can specialize in specific skin treatments such as microdermabrasion, acne treatments, light chemical peels, and LED therapy among others.

Some people are apprehensive of receiving a facial because many include extractions.  This is where your esthetician will remove whiteheads, blackheads or pimples.  We thought we would put your mind at ease and help explain what to expect from one of our estheticians when you come to us for a facial.

How is a signature facial performed at Vanilla Sugar?

We cannot emphasize this enough – while the information below is how a signature facial is performed at our spa, the process may vary slightly on your personal skin concerns and which esthetician is working with you.  There are many ways to achieve the goals you are looking for and we give each esthetician flexibility to achieve that with you.  We feel this is in your best interest.

1.    Cleansing – The facial cleansing process is usually very soothing. Your esthetician will massage a mildly exfoliating cleanser on your skin, starting the relaxation process as well as removing make-up, oil, dirt, and dead skin cells.

2.    Exfoliating & Steaming– After cleansing your skin, you will next be treated to a steam with an exfoliating enzyme. Most of our enzymes are formulated with a low PH, which means you will often feel it working.  It should never be uncomfortable, as we will always work to find the best for your skin.  This is where the magic really happens.  The enzymes will eat away at dead skin cells which is a big part of the glow you have after a facial.  While you are steaming, you’ll receive a foot massage (as long as you are ok with that- if not, your esthetician can massage your face while you are steaming).

3.    Massage – After your skin has a chance to soften, we further enhance it with the power of touch.  For many, this is the best part of the facial. Have you ever had your face massaged?  This offers so much opportunity for the muscles and cells of the face to function at their best levels.  This will help with healing, bringing more oxygen to the area which gives it a better glow as well as a little bit of a lift, which is something we all look for as we mature in life. Check out this Podcast to learn about the benefits of massage and skin health.

4.    Extraction – THIS IS OPTIONAL!  After the massage comes the most challenging part of most facials – extractions.  We don’t offer this all the time if your skin doesn’t need it. If you are getting the Deep Pore Cleansing Facial, these are to be expected.  Under the hands of an experienced esthetician, it shouldn’t hurt, much. We do our best to make the process easier by prepping the skin with the above steps.  We may extract some whiteheads and blackheads but will rarely extract cystic acne.  Liz, our owner, discusses this on Episode 21 of her podcast.

5.    Masking & Massage – This is the chance to finally bring your skin fully into homeostasis.  We will use a mask that is best for your skin.  It can be a calming mask, hydrating or purifying.  There are lots of additional ingredients in our masks that help with additional skin issues such as pigmentation, rosacea, bacterial issues, etc.  While you have a mask on your face, a hand and arm massage is performed.  Please note that our estheticians are not massage therapists, although we do advanced massage training for each esthetician, they are not licensed to perform therapeutic massage.  This is a relaxing massage while they specialize in skin correction.

6.    Finishing Up- Here we will use serums, moisturizers and sunscreen to protect and nourish your skin.   We can also discuss with you any concerns you have for your homecare use.  We have a saying; you can get a facial once a month but what are you doing the other 29 days.  You can read about our line on our professional website Elizabeth Steffen. You can ask your esthetician for product recommendations and pick up at the spa before you leave your appointment.  Our products are not what you get from the drug store.  Our products are created to truly make changes in your skin.  We sell A LOT because our clients see the changes quickly and once they trust us, they can’t believe how much it truly makes a difference.
